Solve Orgiva

Nick Auvache

Since studying Spanish and living in Spain as a student in 1990 I had always wanted to return to live in Spain one day. Twelve years later in 2002 my family and I finally gathered the courage, not to mention financial resources, to enable us to realize our dream. Three years later we are settled in Orgiva, I live with my partner and two children, Jack and Oliver, who both attend the village school. I decided to relocate to the Alpujarras in search of a more tranquil life style where my children could enjoy freedom that was not available to them in London.

I have a background in advice work in the UK and have mainly worked at Citizens Advice Bureaux advising, as well as representing, clients on a number of issues ranging from welfare benefits to personal debt. My experience includes representing clients at social security tribunals and latterly at various county courts in London, where I worked as a dedicated debt adviser. Shortly before moving to Spain I was working at Middlesex University in a similar capacity.

My work has always involved listening to people who have a complaint or in some way need to be informed about their rights. Therefore information provision and public accessibility are concepts that have always been close to my heart. So for me, the opportunity to be involved with SOLVE, an organisation that dedicated itself to that end in Orgiva, was too good an opportunity to miss.

I don't see my role with SOLVE as being identical to my previous work and I am sure that the project will grow and adapt to meet the changing needs of clients. However, it feels sufficiently similar for me to draw on some of my existing skills and sufficiently different to represent a new challenge.
